Your future career

Your future career

The ISG has over 5000 alumni working in information and cyber security across the world; whether in pioneering research, driving innovation, setting policy agendas or securing organisations. Our graduates are highly sought after and have gone on to forge successful careers in a wide range of sectors - both during their early stages to the top of the field.

"The ISG, or our ISG, doesn't just have history. It is history... this field is for everyone, for analysts, communicators, policy thinkers, technical wizards, creative problem solvers, and yes for women too" (Efa Wilson, Student Orator at the 2025 Winter Graduation)

The ISG has a proud legacy of supporting those who come through our doors to develop their careers in information and cyber security; whether that is being an analyst to being executive members in large organisations. We have alumni all across the world and we are world-renowned for the quality of the people who come through our programmes, including the prestigious MSc Information and Cyber Security. We offer this degree full-time, part-time, and in flexible modes. To find out more about this degree and others, click here.

The ISG benefits from close engagement with industry both in the development of our academic material but also in providing opportunities for placements and employers. The UK - and the world - will continue to need dynamic and critical thinkers across both technical and social requirements in information and cyber security.

For more information about the profession in the UK - including careers and salary ranges, see the UK Cyber Security Council's Cyber Career Framework (this link takes you to an external page).

Supporting you during your degree

Many of our alumni mentor current students through a dedicated mentoring programme. This provides an opportunity to network with current information and cyber security professionals and receive support early in your career.

There are a range of invited speakers, both in our degree programmes and as other speakers to build up industry contacts and perspectives. This is also a compulsory element of our MSc Information and Cyber Security with a Year in Industry, but is open to all students.

The Careers Service provides a range of opportunities to get involved in volunteering, build your CV, and offer tailored support.

Supporting you after your degree

After you graduate at Royal Holloway, you have up to 2 years further support including dedicated one-to-one career guidance.

An ongoing community

A free annual public lecture honouring the ISG's founder, Fred Piper. This is an opportunity to return back to our beautiful Egham campus to meet with faculty and alumni, whilst listening to the cutting edge of information and cyber security thinking and debate. Previous speakers have included those from government and industry, including the CEO of the UK National Cyber Security Centre.
