Student Media
Planning a career in journalism? Or just want to get involved in student media for fun? Whatever your reason, our student media offers lots of ways to have your voice heard.
We have three main media outlets, all operating from a Media Suite in the Students’ Union:
- Insanity Radio - our student radio station
- The Orbital - our monthly Students’ Union magazine
- rhubarbTV - our student TV station
Insanity Radio broadcasts chart and chat, news and specialist music on AM and FM as well as online 24 hours a day. Over the years, it’s picked up lots of Student Radio awards from best student radio station to best marketing and productions.
Fancy having a go as a presenter? Or maybe you’re more interested in broadcast engineering or web development? There are lots of different ways to help run the station.
The Orbital is our monthly Students’ Union magazine and runs regular training events to help you learn more about journalism and improve your writing technique. You can get involved as either a writer or photographer.
rhubarbtv is our student television station, broadcasting programmes on everything from current affairs to cookery. It also livestreams events both on and off campus. Anyone can get involved, whether you have lots of experience in TV production or have never picked up a camera before.
What our alumni and current students say
Isabella
BSc Psychology
"My time at Royal Holloway was shaped by both the Department of Psychology and the extra-curricular activities on campus.
"The friends I made in societies, getting involved with the RH100 panel, my School of Life Sciences and the Environment Presidency and my experience as peer guide and student helper have followed me into my career and have set me up with a network that can never be replaced.
"I still keep in touch with friends from Royal Holloway (I even attended two of their weddings this summer), and it is a bond that keeps me grounded and healthy."

Lily
MA Ancient History
“I've begun learning French and I've even started going to the Witchcraft and Occult Society - things I would never have considered doing before. I've met new and amazing people in this community.”

Jaswanth
BSc Computer Science and AI (Year in Industry)
"Royal Holloway showed me that classrooms are only one part of the university experience - it’s what you do outside them that truly shapes you. I was highly involved in student life, including running a society, actively participating in the Running Society, and standing as a candidate for Students’ Union President. These roles helped me develop leadership, confidence, and the ability to engage with people from all backgrounds."

Laura

"Getting involved in student journalism has not only introduced me to a new group of friends and a different social scene, but helped me to develop skills which employers really value."
