SEDarc Studentship

SEDarc offers funding for postgraduate researchers to undertake doctoral research and training.

  • Studentships include fees and stipends at the UK home fee rate on a full-time or part-time basis (paid at 50% of full-time rates).
  • SEDarc offers funding across fourteen social science disciplines that are organised into five interdisciplinary thematic pathways. Please see the Pathways Page for further information.
  • The minimum duration of a SEDARC-funded studentship will be 3.25 years for a PhD programme (plus up to 3 months for a placement).
  • The maximum duration of a studentship will be 4.25 years, which covers an integrated Master's degree followed by a PhD programme (plus up to 3 months for a placement).
  • 200 hours of General Skills training in the first year, including Research in Practice sessions.
  • 200 hours of Specialist skills training in both the second and third year of study.
  • Opportunity for funded placement in academia, policy, business, or the third sector
  • Access to additional funding to support your research, UK or overseas fieldwork, Overseas Institutional visits, and Difficult Language Training.

Fees, stipend and London weighting (where applicable) for each academic year can be found in the UKRI / ESRC funding guidelines, respectively. Please note that the studentship does not cover flights, visa, or health surcharge costs.

SEDarc only offers an October entry, and unfortunately, awards cannot be deferred. Due to the nature of the SEDarc programme, funding is not available to those who have already started their PhD.

More information about the structure of our awards and funding types can be found under Studentship Award Structure.
